What to know about living in Coronado, California

Coronado’s Downtown/Main Street:

Downtown Coronado embodies the charming coastal village feeling, complete with a quiet, laid back San Diego vibe. Visitors can go shopping in the boutiques and souvenir shops then grab a bite to eat at one of the many dining options downtown. Schools in Coronado:

Famed for its white sandy beaches, Coronado Island may seem like a place people just visit, and don’t actually inhabit. But one look at the school system here lets you know it’s not only a place people call home, it’s a great place to live! While you won’t find as many choices on Coronado Island as you would in the rest of San Diego, sometimes less is more.  Village Elementary and Silver Strand Elementary are the two public primary schools. From there, the students feed into Coronado Middle School and then Coronado High School.

If you think your student is more suited for an arts-centric education, the Coronado School of the Arts could be a perfect fit, and they are currently accepting applications for the coming school year. All the schools in Coronado are highly rated, according to niche.com, so lucky residents of this beautiful town have the cream of the crop to pick from!

Home Prices in Coronado:

Coronado Island has long been frequented by the rich and famous seeking out a quiet escape. With its gorgeous atmosphere and upscale aura, you can imagine the homes here aren’t cheap. If calling Coronado home is in your sights, you better have at least a million dollars to lay down for a home. That’s the absolute lowest barrier to entry for homeownership here. From there, the sky’s the limit, as Coronado Island is known for having some absolutely gorgeous coastal mansions.

The Coronado homes in the lower range are usually no more than two bedroom one bath, and the less expensive they are, the older they are. You could definitely get more for your dollar elsewhere, but obviously that’s not what most residents are looking for. People come to Coronado for a beautiful, relaxing way of life. The views are to die for, no matter where you are on the island, and there’s always something fun to do. For those who own boats, there’s an array of options around the marina, so they can be close to what they love the most.

Speaking of “The Del,” it’s simply a must-do for visitors and locals alike. Built in 1888, The Hotel Del Coronado has hosted celebrities, dignitaries, and even a resident ghost. A stay at the hotel is a luxurious getaway experience, but even if you don’t spend the night, you should stop in to enjoy lunch and see what all the fuss is about.  If you want to enjoy the briny blue but don’t want to get sand in your shoes, there’s a nice paved walkway down much of the public beach for walking or biking. If biking sounds more your speed than walking, Coronado has more than fifteen miles of bike paths along the beach to take in your surroundings in all its salty glory! If you have two or more people along, really make it a party and rent a four wheel surrey to cruise around town in.  You’ll notice a common theme, everyone everywhere is trying to get outside and enjoy this beautiful town by the sea.
